The little vintage town

A week back me and my family stayed in our caravan in a local village named Tewkesbury. This village is a vintage lovers heaven, with thatched roofs, antique shops and cute cafes. Like the olden days you even have to pay for the toilet!

We walked into the village through the gardens, a river flowing to the left with bright flowers surrounded the gardens. The sign 'Victorian gardens' sounds as beautiful as it looked.

After the gardens we looked round the village. Its full of vintage sweet shops with plastic gars covering the walls. Nearby alley ways are full of books which seems magical.

After looking in all the shops we fell hungry and entered a cafĂ© which was jam packed with vintage collections evey pice of wall had something unique and special. Each individual table had sugar cubes and a tin of beans holding a flower. The meal was lovely too. I just had a jacket potato. There's nothing like a oven baked potato.

The next day we took a walk round the caravan site. The walk was lovely there was rabbit holes and scurrying sounds along the fallen leaves. We stopped to pick some blackberries. My Dad was staring into the eyes of Adder. The snake was so camouflaged I don't know how he spotted it. It was so still, catching the last of the sun.

Dartmoor Camping

Recently I went camping with my sister to Dartmoor. We stayed at a site called River Dart Country Park . We had lots of laughter and a brilliant time.

We had just arrived at the site and it began to rain. I started to set up the tent thinking it wouldn’t come too much. But it hammered it down with rain. Me being me and forgetting my coat I got very wet.
The rain kept coming down so we had to drag the tent underneath the car hoping it wouldn’t get any wetter. It was so funny. Sheltering in the car when the rain came down- we thought we were going to have to sleep in the car!

Thankfully the rain stopped we put up the tent and set up camp. Later on we explore the country park. It was so nice. A river was flowing directly behind our camping pitch. Hearing the water flow past at night was lovely. The site had a huge play area and an assault course was on top of a lake. Luckily neither of us fell in.
As the dark fell we realised we had no source of light. Getting dressed and setting up our beds in the dark was hilarious.

On the second day we went to Becky Falls. It has a petting  area with animal, a waterfall and plenty of walks. We walked around and did a trail which was called ‘bolder clamber.’ We had to go along the boulders following the river. There was a huge waterfall there and people were climbing to the top and having photographs. They had animals there to pet. There were several cute rabbits, guinea pigs and horses. They had some baby meerkats too which were so cute!

There was a lovely water well at the entrance and exit of the falls. This looked almost magical.

On the third day we did a high ropes course which was in the trees. The zip wire was my favourite as it went across a peaceful river. Heights don’t scare me but swinging in the trees on walking on wires so thin did frighten me.
That night we explore more of the site as it was nice to do walks and assault courses when day visitors have gone home. We went on a huge wooden castle but me and my sister go stuck in horizontal tyres. Haha! It was very funny.  We followed the river down along the woods when we came across some shelters made from wood they looked amazing. It was a camp which had a bonfire and a rope swing.

River Dart County Park was an adventurous holiday and I enjoyed it so much with my sister. We went there when we were children. It brought back so many  memories  of when we were tiny.

Symonds Yat

Living in the Forest of Dean has many benefits. Like the vast amount of wildlife and beautiful landscapes. However you don't appreciate the places where you live. As it’s the summer holidays you have time to explore the area where you live. This is exactly what me and my family did.

Symonds Yat is a place in the Forest of Dean. You can overlook the River Wye and do walks in the countryside. The walks can vary from 1 to 3 hours. We took the shortest walk but it went quickly so we will go back for a longer challenge soon.

The best part of the walk was the incredible view of the river. It was silent as everyone was admiring the view. Floating on the river were some kayakers, who were following the meander. People travel thousands of miles to see this exact view and I live so close its amazing.

We then went to another part of the Yat called Symonds Yat West. This part was more commercialised. It has a maze and mini golf course. It also had an arcade with slot machines and a children's play area with bouncy castle. We enjoyed a game of pool- I was complete rubbish! But it was a laugh. On Symonds Yat west there is a view of the river with continuous passing boats and kayaks. We sat by the river and had a picnic, watching boat trips also leave and arrive.

The Forest of Dean is a lovely place. If you like an amazing view or you are interested in wildlife or geography. You should pay it a visit.

Don't forget to explore the area where you live. There could be some secret places, you don't have to spend hours traveling.
